Route Summary
This stage leaves Weymouth along the seafront before heading east onto open coastal paths. The route follows the edge of Weymouth Bay, with relatively gentle gradients compared to earlier sections. The terrain consists mainly of grassy cliff-top paths with occasional short ascents and descents. As the walk progresses, the landscape becomes quieter and more rural, finishing with a descent into Osmington Mills.
Elevation & Difficulty
With approximately 145 metres of ascent, this stage is relatively easy compared to many others along the Jurassic Coast. The elevation gain is gradual, with no sustained or steep climbs. The distance and terrain allow for a steady pace, making this a manageable stage, particularly following the flatter section from Abbotsbury.

Navigation Notes
The route is clearly signposted as part of the South West Coast Path. Navigation is straightforward, with a continuous coastal path and no complex junctions. Care should be taken when leaving the built-up area of Weymouth to ensure you remain on the designated route.
Safety Notes
This stage is less exposed than many earlier cliff sections but still includes coastal paths with uneven ground. Care is required near edges and in wet conditions. The route is relatively open, so wind exposure can be a factor. There are no tide-dependent sections.
Suggested Walking Strategy
This is a relatively short and manageable stage that works well as either a half-day walk or a shorter recovery day. The gentle terrain allows for a steady pace. Walking from Weymouth to Osmington Mills provides a gradual transition back into more rugged sections further east.
